How Any Cable Television Works
Cable television is a way in which television programs are received by viewers through cables to their television sets. The various cables that are used for transmission of channels are coaxial and fiber optic. Each of this cables differ in the way the signal is sent from the provider to the homestead.
The coaxial cable works by transmitting the signal by radio frequency through a copper metal while the optical fiber transmits by using light rays through a core of a pipe . Fibre optic transmission is preferred to coaxial because it is not affected by environmental factors such as magnetic waves therefore the image and sound usually received by the user is clear.
In the past people usually used to receive TV channels by use of line of sight method by which the provider used to transmit live content to people by broadcasting from large antennas and people have their antennas that receive these signals. The antenna had to be in the same line of sight as the transmitting boaster if not there would be no signal. The antenna then transmits by a cable to the television set and the higher up the Ariel was the better of you were.
Providers also used to transmit there content by analog means but this method is being overtaken by digital means by which one frequency can carry many channels. The digital transmission also removes some disadvantages of analog transmission the main one being signal interruption by environmental factors. Analog transmission needs no special equipment just an aerial and a TV set. Digital means requires a digital TV to be able to view digital content or the person can use a normal television but with a converter from digital signal to analog signal.
In specific areas people usually pay for the channels they receive using cable transmission and the channels are usually charged in a collection called a package. The people who provide these different packages are called service providers and in today's market there are a number of service providers.
The number of channels offered by one provider can range from 60 channels for one package to about one thousand channels. The channels range from a collection of sports, series, cartoons, documentaries and general channels that show a mixture of different content.
In today's market there are two kinds of packages, there those who are called basic and those that are called premium. The basic package is free of charge to the user and they recover their costs by advertisements. They usually either have one channel or maximum of four channels due to the cost of transmission they incur.
The premium package offer their content at a cost to the user but there channels are usually encrypted so that only those that have paid can view this channels. These channels have much less advertisements than basic and usually during breaks between shows they promote other channels in that package or in a different package.
These providers usually offer a large quantity of channels for cable television and when a user first subscribes he is given a decoder to unscramble the signal that is sent. The users there after pays a monthly subscription fee to stay connected.
